Interdict against trespassing by EFF

Sakeliga (then known as AfriSake) and AfriForum obtained a final interdict against the EFF and Julius Malema on March 7, 2017, preventing them from inciting or employing persons to commit the crime of illegal trespassing. The EFF and Malema did not appear for the hearing, and a default judgment was taken against them. The EFF and Malema attempted to appeal the default judgment in June 2017 but did not appear for their own hearing, and the case was indefinitely postponed with a punitive cost order against the EFF and Malema. The case was later placed on the roll for February 12, 2018, but the EFF and Malema were unsuccessful. The EFF's application for direct access to the Constitutional Court to appeal was also denied. • Landowners are protected against mass trespassing actions.
